Puer for Preservation Tea
Crafted to bring center and balance, Comins' Puer for Preservation is an aged shu pu'er tea from Yunnan, China, prized for its rich, smooth character and earthy flavor profile.
Developed in the 1970s, this tea undergoes an accelerated fermentation process known as "wet piling", created to mimic the effects of long-aged raw pu'er. The result is a dark, full-bodied infusion with earthy, woody sweetness and notes of red dates, dark fruit, and subtle mushroom-like undertones. Typically yielding a deep brown to near-black liquor, it's often enjoyed for its soothing, digestive qualities.
About the farmer: On the southwest border area of Yunnan sits the World Heritage Site Jingmai Mountain, home to a mix of the Dai, Blang, Hani, and Wa communities. This pu'er, from Bulang elder Mr. NanKang's community, is grown naturally following the rules and traditions of his ancestors.
He explains, "The Puer tea market is in chaos—individual sellers are pushing the price of puer ever higher, people bringing in tea and mixing it with our ancient leaves, piling it and saying it is puer. I cannot manage the market. I only know that our life is shorter than the life of a tea tree so to protect it is a huge responsibility. Our duty is to operate with respect, integrity & honesty".
