How are orders shipped / when will my order arrive?

Please review our Shipping Policy for details on how orders are processed and shipped.

Can I modify my order after it's been placed?

If you need to modify your order, please contact us within an hour of placing it. We'll do our best to help with your order, but if it has already been picked up by our shipping carrier, it cannot be modified.

Do you ship internationally?

We’ve temporarily paused international shipping due to changes in tariffs. We hope to resume as soon as possible—thank you for your understanding.

Do you use eco-friendly shipping materials?

Whenever possible, we choose shipping materials that are eco-friendly, whether that means they are made from recycled content, are easily recyclable, or are biodegradable.

For small, lightweight items we use kraft paper mailers. They contain 90% post-consumer content, are curbside recyclable, and are compostable (though recycling is recommended over composting!).

Our boxes are made with 200lb corrugated cardboard, which is lightweight but sturdy. By using good-quality boxes, our hope is that they can be reused and repurposed before ultimately being recycled.

Packing material inside the box is usually a combination of new kraft paper (made from 100% recycled content, recyclable, and biodegradable) and clean, repurposed packing material that we receive in shipments from our vendors. Repurposed materials are often paper-based, but may occasionally include plastic components such as air pillows or bubble wrap when they are the best available option for filling empty space in a box. On rare occasions, we may need to use new plastic bubble wrap to protect highly breakable items. Remember that bubble wrap should not be placed in your recycling bin, but can be recycled anywhere plastic film is accepted.

We use water-activated shipping tape that is made from 50% recycled paper. It’s recyclable, biodegradable, and requires less material per seal than pressure-sensitive polypropylene (clear packing) tape.

What is Corso Green Shipping Protection?

We now offer Corso Green Shipping Protection on all orders. This optional feature serves two purposes. It provides shipping insurance for your package, and it is also a carbon offset service.

Carbon emitted from vehicles used to ship products across the country is impactful to the environment. The collective cost of all the packages and all the trucks, ships, and trains adds up.

While your individual package might not have an enormous impact, the cumulative effect of millions of packages traversing the planet every day is monumental.

When you place an order with us, you will be given the opportunity to add Corso Green Shipping Protection for a nominal fee (based on the shipping weight of your package and the distance it will travel plus a small processing fee to cover the cost of running the Carbon Offset program).

When you add Corso Green Shipping Protection to your order, it will be protected against loss, theft, or damage. Corso then invests the Carbon Offset amount in verified carbon offset projects.

Examples of some of the independently verified carbon offset organizations include:

  • American Carbon Registry
  • Gold Standard
  • Energy Globe
  • Climate Action Reserve
  • Verified Carbon Standard

Participation in Green Shipping Protection is optional and all customers have the opportunity to opt out in their Shopping Cart before checking out.

Product Information

Where are your products made?

We curate our collection of products from every corner of the world, without bias against any country or place of origin. We have three basic standards which we stand by when sourcing new products: Quality, Honesty, and Functionality. If items are made well, made honestly, and have a clear function then we will consider them as part of our collection.

Can I suggest a maker / product for you to add to your collections?

Yes, you can. In fact, in addition to online research, antique markets, and global trade shows, the other way we find new makers is through referrals and suggestions from folks like you. If you have a product or maker you want us to know about, send their website or online catalog to info@bostongeneralstore.com.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes, gift cards are available to purchase in any denomination (a minimum of $10 required). Gift cards do not expire, however lost or stolen gift cards cannot be replaced.
