Hand forged by a father-and-son team in Sanjo, Japan, this carbon steel cultivator is an essential tool for loosening soil, hoeing and weeding in the garden.
Materials: carbon steel, ash wood handle
Made by: Niwaki
Made in: Sanjo, Japan
Specifications: 10.2" x 3"
Care: Carbon steel is very hard and retains its sharpness better than stainless steel, however, it is more prone to rusting and must be treated with a little more care. If you are using the cultivator for an extended weeding session, we recommend keeping a clean, dry cloth handy and giving the prongs an occasional wipe, especially if it's getting wet.
After using, remove leaf residue, rust and gunk with a Crean Mate and water. Dry with a clean cloth and wipe with Camellia oil. Store in a dry place.
You can keep your cultivator working properly by remembering thatJapanese steel is hard and sharp, and can be more brittle than some people are used to - it will chip if abused.
Further Reading:Niwaki (knee-whacky) means garden tree. In Japan, gardens are both landscapes and microcosms of nature. Shaping and caring for these landscapes is an art form, and having the correct tools is essential. Niwaki’s tools exemplify the good design and quality construction that we look for as purveyors.
