Kumaen Black Tea

Regular price $25.00

Masahiro Kuma’s Kumaen tea is an elegant Japanese loose-leaf black tea with a gentle, clear, and refined taste.

This Kumaen black tea is made from carefully shaded leaves, covered for around 20 days prior to harvest, which softens bitterness and enhances natural sweetness. It uses the Benihikari cultivar, a Japanese variety developed specifically for smooth, aromatic black tea with low bitterness and mild sweetness.

Compared to Sri Lankan and Indian black teas, it's a bit more delicate—offering a bright, stone-fruit-like aroma and a clean finish.

About the farmer:  Award-winning Kazumi Nakatani is a fourth-generation tea farmer, working alongside her cousin, head tea master Masahiro Kuma. The pair tend a 4.5-hectare tea farm, one of a small group of producers cultivating a secluded area in the Yame region of Japan. Masahiro and Kazumi aim not only to produce high-quality Japanese black tea, but to create a cup that genuinely moves those who drink it.
