Blackwing Volume 143 Pencils - Frida Kahlo
Volume 143 is Blackwing's tribute to Frida Kahlo. Celebrated for her self-portraits and exploration of identity, pain, and passion, her work honored Mexican and indigenous cultures while offering an unflinching examination of physical pain, emotional struggle, and the women’s experience.
On September 17, 1925, a bus collided with a trolley car in Mexico City. Among the injured passengers was 18-year-old Frida Kahlo. The accident left her bedridden for months. With a mirror suspended above her bed, Frida began to paint what she could see: herself.
In this set of 12 pencils, each barrel features a bold floral design inspired by Frida’s iconic imagery, and a soft graphite core that delivers a dark line with excellent shading abilities. The model number 143 is a nod to the 143 paintings commonly attributed to Frida over the course of her life.
Blackwing's Volumes are released quarterly and feature limited-edition pencils that celebrate the people, places, and events that have defined our creative culture over time.
