Sharpening Stone #1000

Regular price $30.00

Revive dull blades with Niwaki's #1000-grit Sharpening Stone. Designed primarily for secateurs, this stone also works well on shears, clippers, and other blades. Its concave edge follows the curve of the blade, while its compact size makes it easy to reach tight spots and corners. Use for a few minutes each week to keep your secateurs in tip-top shape.

This fine grit is ideal for routine blade maintenance on its own, or as an intermediate step between coarse #220 and super-fine #3000 grits. See usage instructions below—the two golden rules are to soak thoroughly before each use, and, above all, not to drop it.

Made by:  Niwaki

Made in:  Japan

Specifications:

  • 5.3" x 0.8" x 1.1"
  • fine #1000 grit

Use:  This stone can be used on its own for general sharpening, or as after a coarse #220 grit, and before a super-fine #3000 grit.

  • Soak stone in water for a 3-4 minutes before use, and periodically sprinkle water to keep wet during use.
  •  Gently move stone back and forth along the whole length of the blade, using as much of the stone as possible—not just the top.
    • Secateurs:  Use the concave edge of the stone, moving from the pivot towards the tip of the blade, following the curve as you go.
    • Straight-bladed shears:  Use the flat side of the stone.
  • Next, turn the tool over, and use the flat side of the stone to smooth the burr off the inside of the blade, going slightly over, creating a very fine bevel.
  • Use the convex edge of the stone to clean off the curved edge of the bypass.
  • Finally, clean and dry the blades, and wipe with Camellia Oil.
