Further Reading: Shimada Textiles is a textile manufacturer with over 90 years of history in Nishiwaki, Hyogo, one of the main Banshu-ori regions of Japan. The region is home to yarn-dyed textiles (where pre-dyed yarns are woven into a pattern) and the company creates original fabrics working with highly skilled craftspeople across all stages of production. The woven pattern known as hakeme (brush mark) is created by alternating a number of different threads to give a brushed appearance. The fabric is finished with two separate surface treatments to add a smooth sheen as well as a finely creased texture as if it has been washed over and over.
