10" Diamond Coated Sharpening Steel

Bring your Opinel knives back to life with this 10" Diamond-Coated Sharpening Steel Rod. A classic varnished beechwood handle for a comfortable grip and a leather lanyard for easy storage.

Unlike a honing steel, diamond-coated surface removes the top layer of your damaged or worn kitchen and pocket knives. The fine abrasive points help reshape and restore the blade's edge to razor-sharp precision.

Materials: diamond-coated stainless steel, beechwood handle, leather lanyard

Made by: Opinel

Made in:  designed in France, made in China

Specifications:

  • steel rod measures 10" x 0.5"
  • total length measures 15.25"

Care: Hand wash and towel dry. Wooden handles do not take kindly to long soaks in the sink or runs through the dishwasher.

For more information on caring for wooden knives, we invite you to read our article, "Wooden Brushes, Knives, and Tools: Tips for Use and Care".

Use: Diamond-coated steel is designed for reshaping and resetting damaged or worn blades. For regular knife maintenance, a honing steel is recommended. For further instructions on how to use your Diamond-Coated Sharpening Steel, check out Opinel's How to Sharpen a Knife? A 101, Step-by-Step Guide.

  • Clean and dry your knife to remove any residue that could interfere with sharpening.
  • Securely hold the rod in a stable position on a non-slip surface.
  • Sharpen with consistent, steady strokes. Place the base of the blade against the rod near the top (close to your hand) and sweep toward the tip, moving downward along the rod.
  • Apply moderate pressure—firm, not heavy—and repeat the stroke on the opposite side of the blade, alternating sides. For a dull blade, perform 5-8 passes per side.
  • Check the edge by testing lightly on paper or a soft vegetable to see if the cut is clean.
  • Wipe the rod with a soft cloth to remove metal filings. Do not apply grease, as it may reduce effectiveness.
