Wood Handled Enamel Nutcracker
In our search for a durable and effective handheld nutcracker, we came across this one—Ilsa's Wood Handled Enamel Nutcracker.
Made in a family-owned factory in Northern Spain, it features a sturdy metal body, a responsive spring, and hardwood handles that met our standards for reliable construction. The green enamel finish, subtle shamrock logo, and light natural wood checked all the boxes for aesthetics as well.
Full-tang construction ensures that the metal extends throughout the length of the wooden handle, providing even force distribution and enhancing the tool's structural integrity for long-lasting durability. This handy nutcracker also doubles as an opener for sparkling wine and champagne, providing a strong grip for uncorking.
Make quick work of cracking the shells of all your favorite nuts, including walnuts, pecans, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts, and almonds. Enjoy the taste of freshly cracked nuts anytime of year!
Materials: metal, wood, enamel finish
Made by: Ilsa
Made in: Spain
Specifications: 7.8" L x 4.3" W x 2.4" H
Use: With the handles open, place the nut inside the conical metal chamber. Turn the opening of the chamber to the side, so that it points away from your face and eyes. Cracking nuts can cause shell fragments to break off with force—take care to protect eyes and faces from errant pieces.
Keeping fingers clear of the spring and crushing mechanism, bring the handles together to compress the nut until its shell cracks. Turn the nut out into a bowl or your hand and remove the shell pieces, discarding them in your compost or trash. Eat and enjoy!
Care: Like all wooden kitchen tools, we recommend hand washing.
Further Reading: We had the opportunity to meet the family behind Ilsa on a buying trip in 2024. As we chatted with the warm and welcoming father-and-daughter team, we learned about their family-run factory in Northern Spain, where each piece has been carefully crafted since 1963.
