Napoleon's Indienne Fabric Pin Cushion

This pumpkin-shaped pin cushion is handmade from Sajou-printed fabric and is tightly stuffed to hold pins and needles securely. It’s finished with fabric-covered buttons on both the top and bottom and bears a woven Sajou label on its side. Crafted in a Versailles workshop, each pin cushion varies ever so slightly, making every piece uniquely its own.

About the print: Indienne prints like this one were popular in 17th and 18th century Europe. Designed as interpretations of Indian block-printed textiles, they became so fashionable that even Napoleon reportedly used Indienne fabrics in his campaign tent décor.
