Niwaki's Blue Steel Higonokami Folding Knife features a brass handle that develops a rich patina over time. The blade is hand-forged Hitachi aogami Blue Steel, which retains its sharpness for a long time and is also easy to sharpen.
Ideal for everyday carry, this pocket knife is also perfect for foraging, picnics, camping, and other outdoor pursuits.
The minimalist construction features no locking mechanism, and relies only on the stiffness of the joint to secure the blade closed. Should the joint loosen over time, it can be tightened by gently tapping on the rivet with a hammer. We recommend using a brass tip hammer to prevent damage, or placing a small piece of cloth in-between the hammer and knife before striking.
Also available in SK steel with a nickel handle.

Further Reading: The Niwaki Higo knives are hand made by Kanekoma, 5th generation knife makers in Miki, in the Hyogo Prefecture. Founded in 1894, Kanekoma's early knives were called higonokami because a lot of customers were from Kumamoto, an area previously known as Higo. In 1910, the name was registered, and only makers in the Miki region could use it. Kanekoma are now the last of those makers.
In an industry known for hanging on to traditions, their factory is one the most traditional — small, dark, and cluttered!
