Marseille Laundry Soap Cube

Marius Fabre's Laundry Soap Cube is entirely vegetable based, biodegradable, and palm-oil free, offering a natural option for spot-treating stains or for hand washing clothing.

For larger loads of laundry, we recommend using Marius Fabre's Soap Flakes or Liquid Laundry Soap with Baking Soda

Olive oil Marseille soap has a distinct natural scent, often described as earthy or grassy. While many appreciate its simplicity and lack of added fragrance, it may not appeal to everyone.

Materials:  soap (sodium sunflowerseedate, sodium cocoate), aqua, glycerine, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide

The glycerine in Marius Fabre's Marseille soap has not been added, it is naturally present in vegetable oil. After a 10-day cooking period and many rinses, only a small amount remains. Authentic Marseille soap, when it is made according to traditional processes, is actually glycerine free. “Glycerine” is, however, listed in their soaps’ ingredients because some traces remain. New cosmetic regulation requires all ingredients, even in small quantities, to be stated in the list of ingredients.

Use:

  • For stubborn stains: rub the cube of soap on the stain before washing. Put the garment in your washing machine. Ideal for greasy stains, stubborn stains, and shirt collars.
  • For hand-washing: submerge your delicate clothing items in warm water. Wet the soap cube and lather the soap in your hands or directly on the fabric. (For more fragile fabrics, create a lather in your hands then apply that to the garment.) Gently agitate the fabric and allow it to soak. Rinse thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water. Press out excess water with a towel, then hang to dry.

Further Reading: Savon de Marseille, or Marseille Soap, has been made in France for 600 years. Only a handful of soap makers in the world today still craft Marseille soap by the original standards. Marius Fabre prides itself on being one of those remaining makers, crafting their products for over 110 years.

We had the opportunity to travel to their factory to see these processes for ourselves. You can read about our visit in our Meet the Maker post
