Embracing Fall 2020

October is a month of transitions—days get shorter, nights are cooler, and trees shed their leaves in a dramatic show of oranges, reds, and yellows. Sandwiched in-between the still-warm days of September and the decidedly more wintery feel of November, October is our quintessential Fall month here in New England, and we celebrate it with enthusiasm: festooning our door steps with pumpkins and colorful wreaths, baking with apples and cinnamon, and filling our travel mugs with the heady aroma of pumpkin spice lattes.

This year, October brings with it all the usual delights of the season and perhaps a bit of uncertainty as well. As we head toward winter, staying healthy—both physically and emotionally—will be ever so important as our first pandemic holiday season draws near.

Here at Boston General Store, we are stocked and ready to do our part to help you and your loved ones achieve the goal of a happy and healthy fall. You will find on our shelves and in our online store a selection of pantry, self-care, utility, and apothecary goods, carefully selected to promote health and wellbeing.

Fall Things

Let’s start by delighting the senses. Arriving soon to our shops and online store is a 5-pack Pumpkin Spice Latte from a tried-and-true Boston General Store vendor Copper Cow Coffee. With its single-serve pour-over design, you can have a steaming cup of PSL in your hands in minutes—perfect for when you need a pick-me-up that’s anything but basic. Available for pre-order here

If filling your home with the delicious aromas of baked goods is what you’re after, then check out thisCranberry Ginger Maple Crunch Scone Mix by April’s Maple. It’s made with 100% pure Vermont maple syrup from the 800-acre farm where the folks of April’s Maple continue their family traditions of making maple syrup of the highest quality using sustainable practices.

When the scones have been baked and not a crumb is left on the plate (we dare you not to eat them all in one day!) try burning thisApple Cider Minimalist Candle by Brooklyn Candle Studio. Made in Brooklyn, NY with clean-burning soy wax, it will transport you to an upstate cider house where cups of steaming apple cider mingle with the scents of cinnamon, spice, and cedarwood.

After you’ve filled your home with the delightful smells of autumn, make sure to spend time outside taking in the beauty that nature has to offer at this time of year. Hikes, apple picking, trips to the farm stand to find the perfect pumpkin—these are all great ways to get outside and connect with nature and with our local communities. Don’t forget your face covering when you’re running out the door! We have a wide selection ofmasks and bandanas to help keep each other safe (and look good while doing it). We also carry our very own Boston General Store liquidhand sanitizer, for when soap and water is not readily available on your outing. And when social distancing keeps us apart from friends and family, send them some cheer with a hand-written note in one of our delightfulHalloween cards

Finally, at the end of these shorter fall days, when the sun sets early and the cool nights arrive, curl up by the fire pit with a cozy blanket (be on the lookout for some gorgeous woolen ones coming to us fromMcNutt of Donegal later this fall) and a nightcap made with Yes Cocktail’sCharred Oak and Maple Syrup. The rich maple flavor and warm smokiness will add depth of flavor to your cocktails. Need a recipe? Try theLeaf Peeper

In stocking our shelves with thoughtfully curated, quality products, we hope that we can help you celebrate all that fall has to offer, while staying healthy and happy. Be well, dear friends.
