What is Hobonichi Techo?

The Hobonichi Techo is a life book that consists of a planner and cover. Covers are sold separately so that you can customize your Techo and interchange covers. We offer three planners: the Techo Planner (A6), the Techo Original (A6) and the Techo Cousin (A5). Each size has a variety of covers to choose from. The books can also be used without a cover for those who prefer a more minimalist experience.

In addition to the Techo Original and Cousin, we also stock the Techo Weeks. The Weeks features a week-per-page format in a long, wallet-sized book with a slim profile. A cover and planner in one, the Weeks comes in a variety of materials and designs.

Hobonichi HON has the same contents as the Techo Cousin A5, but with a built-in hardcover that makes it usable on its own without a separate cover. The HON A5 book features a page per day, plus weekly pages which track a week in each two-page spread, and a handy time schedule. Like all Hobonichi planners, the HON is made with fountain pen-friendly Tomoe River paper and has a lay-flat binding.

We also stock a variety of options for accessorizing your Hobonichi Techo. Fun and functional add-ons like extra pockets, index stickers, and stencils will help to further personalize your planner.

What makes Hobonichi Techo Planners different?

All Hobonichi planners are thoughtfully crafted with design features that have been carefully chosen based on years of customer use and feedback. Every detail is intentional, from the width of the grid lines to the rounded page corners. The thread-stitched binding is reinforced with flexible materials, allowing the book to lay flat when it’s open without sacrificing durability.

One of the most noteworthy features of the Techo books is the paper that is used. Tomoe River paper is thin but strong, meaning the book can contain many pages without being overly bulky. Furthermore, Tomoe River is suitable for use with many kinds of pens, including fountain pens. Ink will not feather or bleed on this smooth, high-quality paper, although we have found that some inks require a few extra moments to dry to prevent smudging.

Hobonichi covers come in an array of colors, textures, and materials. Some are clean and minimalist, while others feature designs born of collaborations between Hobonichi and Japanese artists and illustrators. The ability to personalize your Hobonichi, both in the content you create inside of it and the cover you put on the outside, is one of the features that makes it unique.
