Higurashi Scissors

Floral Scissors from the flower fields of Fukuoka. These traditional drop-forged scissors for the garden and home are perfect for ikebana, cut flowers, dead-heading, a bit of bonsai, and light pruning.

The hard-wearing carbon steel holds its edge and sharpens up well.

Materials: S55C carbon steel

Made by: Niwaki

Made in: Sanjo, Japan

Specifications:

  • 7.25" x 4"
  • max cut  Ø5mm

Use:  Hold with your index finger outside the handle for flexible, comfy use. Use the base of the blades for woody cuts.

Care:

All steel blades will, through regular use, stain (and eventually rust) and gradually lose their edge. You can keep your scissors working properly by remembering the following:

  • Japanese steel is hard and sharp, and can be more brittle than some people are used to - it will chip if abused
  • Do not cut wire, metal, stone, plastic or any other hard material (even bamboo fibres and some very hard woods, especially knots and burrs, can damage steel edges)
  • Do not twist or apply uneven pressure
  • Cut diagonally across branches (not straight across) so you cut along the fibres
  • Pay attention to our maximum cut dimensions, and don’t overdo it (shears are not loppers)
  • Use the base of the blades, not the tips, for heavier cuts
  • Wipe clean with a dry rag after each use
  • Sharpen regularly
