Compatible with the Techo Cousin (A5) covers, Hobonichi's plain notebook uses Tomoe River paper, lays completely flat without having to hold it down, and the pages are divided into four sections with the use of different ink colors for the grid pattern. The cover design is made in collaboration with Japanese picture book author and illustrator Keiko Shibata. The illustration depicts cats noticing the sound of a guest that has come to their house.
