The Original Miner's Lunchbox - Hammered Black

Invented in the 1950’s by a miner named Leo May, the Original Miner’s Lunchbox is a handmade aluminum lunch box that is lightweight, practical, and virtually indestructible.

Working as a miner in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, Leo May wanted to invent a lunch box that he could use in the mines. It needed to be affordable, befitting of a miner’s budget, but also sturdy enough to hold a person’s weight, should he need a place to sit while eating his lunch.

May crafted his first lunch box out of unfinished aluminum joined with rivets. When he showed up at work with his invention, it was an instant hit among the miners and a small company was born.

Today, Leo’s original design is crafted in Northern Ontario by the company that still bears his name. The retro styling and sturdy construction is sought after by anyone looking for a well-made, lightweight, and portable box for food, tools, or equipment.

A quote on the company website sums up what makes this product a great fit for Boston General Store:

Further Reading: Like brass that has developed a rich patina, unfinished aluminum wears its weathering with pride. Your Miner’s Lunchbox will take its licks like a champ it’s ruggedly built — but scratches and scuffs on the surface are to be expected. See them as a sign of a life well-lived on a product that can take a little tough love.

L. May offers a lifetime warranty on their lunchboxes. Follow this link to their Lifetime Warranty page to learn more.

Warranty claims must be made directly with the manufacturer. Boston General Store cannot facilitate warranty claims for customers.
