Darning + Patching Kit

April found these darning kits on a family trip to Asheville, NC. They're made by Deanna Lynch, a textile designer and hand weaver who makes beautiful textiles from natural fibers like wool, hemp, linen, and cotton.

Included in each kit are supplies for darning & patching, essential for anyone looking to extend the longevity of their clothing and household textiles. Everything is contained in a generously sized, zippered cotton pouch. 

Contents include:

  • roughly half a dozen piece of fabric of various weights, colors, materials, and sizes
  • lengths of natural fiber yarn for darning or decorating
  • sewing thread in a neutral color for patching
  • one mini embroidery hoop, useful for small patches while mending or for working on small areas of an embroidery project
  • tiny red-handled scissors
  • a cloth needle book with a selection of needles of varying sizes and some safety pins
  • a booklet with tips and techniques
